http://www.pandasthumb.org/pt-archives/001046.html --- Summary: In this essay, the author suggests that creationists have singled out evolutionary biology for denial for no objective reasons, as similar (usually fallacious) arguments can be suggested against any other science. As an example, Matzke disusses meteorology, whose concepts are plainly contrary to the Bible's many assertions of God directly causing meteorological phenomena such as rains, floods, and the like. Matzke suggests reasons for creationists's leaving meteorology alone while feverishly assaulting evolutionary biology. This essay has invoked an inordinately prolonged and heated discussion (several hundreds comments posted to the thread on Pandas's Thumb weblog).

Link Gary S. Hurd, "Dino Blood Redux" (2005)
"Talk Reason" --- Over a decade ago Mary Higby Schweitzer began her research career by announcing that she and professor Jack Horner had discovered evidence of blood residues in a Tyrannosaur rex femur. There followed many years of creationists' distortion of those findings which they presented as support for a young Earth (see G. Hurd, Dino Blood and the Young Earth). In April of this year, Schweitzer and Horner were again at the center of a media circus prompted by their announcement that this time they had discovered blood vessels and identifiable cells. The creationist reaction was immediate. Hurd reviews these new discoveries, their presentation in the popular media, and the sadly predictable creationist responses.
File Susan J. Lolle, Jennifer L. Victor, Jessica M. Young & Robert E. Pruitt, "Genome-wide non-mendelian inheritance of extra-genomic information in Arabidopsis" (2005)
"Nature" 24 March 2005, vol. 434, pp. 505-509; www.nature.com/nature. --- Abstract: --- A fundamental tenet of classical mendelian genetics is that allelic information is stably inherited from one generation to the next, resulting in predictable segregation patterns of differing alleles. Although several exceptions to this principle are known, all represent specialized cases that are mechanistically restricted to either a limited set of specific genes (for example mating type conversion in yeast) or specific types of alleles (for example alleles containing transposons3 or repeated sequences). Here we show that Arabidopsis plants homozygous for recessive mutant alleles of the organ fusion gene HOTHEAD5 (HTH) can inherit allele-specific DNA sequence information that was not present in the chromosomal genome of their parents but was present in previous generations. This previously undescribed process is shown to occur at all DNA sequence polymorphisms examined and therefore seems to be a general mechanism for extragenomic inheritance of DNA sequence information. We postulate that these genetic restoration events are the result of a template-directed process that makes use of an ancestral RNA-sequence cache. --- Omówienie w języku polskim: http://je.pl/geat --- Komentarz Jonathana Wellsa: http://je.pl/8lk4

In the first of a two-part feature Tony Watkins calls for humility and mutual respect for various viewpoints as he outlines six things you need to know about this controversial subject.
